Riftbound Blind Pick

It's like ARAM, but for Riftbound. Grab two random packs from your cube, shuffle them together, and play whatever champions are gaining dust in your bulk box. Get all the fun of deckbuilding and limited in one go.

Blind Pick is still being fine tuned as Riftbound grows. So rules and guides may teak if things on Riots end shift, AKA multicolor champion units.

playing

How to play

  1. Draft two packs at random from cube box.
  2. Pick one of your two champions as your Chosen Champion. The other goes back into your deck.
  3. Shuffle the other 25 cards together making your main deck.
  4. Combine runes into your 12 rune deck.
  5. Shuffle your two battlefields and one blank battlefield face down and pick one.
  6. Draw your opening hand plus 1 extra card, then play as normal.
  7. After the game, sort the cards back into their two packs and play again.

building

Build a cube

A cube is a box or collection of finished packs. You need a minimum of two packs per player, plus a couple of extras so picks stay random and fresh. Each of the six domains should be represented evenly but it's your cube so have fun with it.

building

Build a pack

Every pack uses one domain and about the same mix of cards, so any two packs make a legal main deck of 25.

1 champion unit, always 7 units (6–8) 4 spells (3–5) 1 gear (0–2)
+ 6 runes + 1 battlefield + 1 Blank battlefield

Middle is 7 units, 4 spells and 1 gear. This is like the goldylocks of packs. Bend the mix toward what your champion wants tho, like extra gear for an Equipment champion or extra spells for a stun champion. Try to keep no more than one card of each type away from the middle target, so the pack still blends with any other. But it's up to you, im not your boss.

  1. Pick a champion unit. This is the packs Domain
  2. Read its text and find what it wants to do, like stun, move enemies, make tokens or deal damage. That's the pack theme or build guide.
  3. Add units and spells that support the theme, But keep the curve smooth. Check the chart below for examples.
  4. Include at least one way to deal with an enemy unit. Think removal, stun, so on.
  5. Pick a battlefield that fits the theme or is simply easy to understand.
  6. Sleeve a battlefield backward, or keep one handy. That's your blank third option.

A good curve

Each bar is how many of the 13 cards cost that much energy. Champion, spells, and gear included.

Middle is the target suggestion. A fast pack moves a couple of cards earlier, and a slow pack moves a couple later. It's good practice to keep every pack within about two cards of the middle so any pairing stays even. But again, boss, not me.

balance

Keep it fair

Pairings are random, so aim every pack to be at the same power level.

Do

  • Use mostly commons and uncommons, with one or two rares.
  • Give every pack a similar curve.
  • Play a few pairings before a pack goes in the cube.
  • If a pack keeps winning, swap out its strongest card and try again.

Leave out

  • Legends and signature cards.
  • Repeatable removal and effects that lock the opponent out.
  • Cards that need a second domain to work.
  • Extra tracking such as XP, unless the pack is built around it.

faq

Quick FAQ

Do I need staple cards?
No! The idea is to play what you have from all the booster packs you opened yesterday!
Do I see my champions before I choose?
Yes. The pack pick is blind, but once you have your two packs you look at both champions and choose one.
What happens to the champion I didn't pick?
It shuffles into your main deck as a normal unit. You can still draw it and play it.
What if both packs are the same domain?
That's fine. You get a mono domain deck with 12 runes of that domain. Easy win! GG!
Do mulligans and who goes first work normally?
Yes. Anything this page doesn't change follows the standard Riftbound rules.
Can more than two people play?
Yes. Every player takes two packs, and you use Riftbound's normal multiplayer rules.
